BASICS IN DERMATOLOGIC SURGERY
Achromatic Mushroom-like melanoma of the back:
Generally the patients are problematic, because of the advanced disease often.
In case of advanced disease – sentinel lymph node is оften not necessary. Than the surgical margin is not from significant importance.
Advanced polypoid melanoma is a rare, aggressive variant of cutaneous melanoma that appears as a raised, “mushroom-like” growth, often with a stem or stalk. This type of melanoma is fast-spreading, can be black, red, pink, or skin-colored, and may have a smooth, rough, or crusted surface. Due to its aggressive nature and tendency to spread, early diagnosis is critical.
Characteristics
Appearance: Resembles a mushroom with a stalk or stem. It is a raised growth rather than a flat patch.
Color: Usually black, but can also be red, pink, or skin-colored.
Surface: Can be smooth, rough, or crusted. It may bleed easily.
Feel: Often feels firm.
Aggressiveness: It is a fast-spreading type of melanoma that can have a poor prognosis, especially if it is thick or ulcerated at diagnosis.
Potential concerns and actions:
Medical evaluation: Anyone concerned about a new or changing bump on their skin should see a doctor for a professional diagnosis.
Diagnosis confirmation:
While clinical and dermoscopic features can suggest polypoid melanoma, a biopsy and histological examination are necessary to confirm the diagnosis.
What to do:
If you notice any suspicious skin lesions, it is crucial to seek immediate medical advice from a healthcare professional.
