A Limberg flap is a surgical technique used to reconstruct small to medium-sized skin defects on the face, often after the removal of skin tumors. It involves creating a rhomboid-shaped flap of skin that is rotated to fill the defect, leaving a less noticeable scar. The technique is considered a reliable and versatile option, even for elderly or older patients, due to its ability to provide a good cosmetic result with minimal complications.
How it works
Flap design: A rhomboid (diamond) shape is designed around the defect, with the goal of creating a scar in a less conspicuous area.
Raising the flap: The flap of skin is raised and moved to cover the defect.
Closure: The resulting donor site can often be closed directly, meaning no skin graft is needed.
